Operating cycle (DIO + DSO)
Goal

Cash conversion cycle = DIO + DSO − DPO. It's the number of days between paying for inventory and collecting cash from the sale. Lower is better; a negative CCC (like some big retailers) means suppliers effectively finance your operations. General information only.

How long is your cash tied up?

The cash conversion cycle ties three metrics together: how long inventory sits (DIO), how long customers take to pay (DSO), and how long you take to pay suppliers (DPO). Add the first two and subtract the third for the days your own cash is locked in the business. Shorter frees cash; negative means suppliers fund you.

CCC = DIO + DSO − DPO

Quick FAQ

How do I shorten the cycle?

Sell inventory faster (lower DIO), collect from customers sooner (lower DSO), and negotiate longer supplier terms (higher DPO) — without damaging relationships or risking stockouts.

Is a negative CCC realistic?

Yes — businesses that collect from customers upfront and pay suppliers later (some retailers and subscriptions) run negative cycles, effectively getting free financing.
