Turn an hourly rate into a salary. Enter your hourly rate, hours per week, and weeks per year — and see annual, monthly, and weekly pay.
Gross pay before taxes and deductions. For what actually lands in your account, use the take-home pay calculator.
To convert an hourly rate to an annual salary, multiply by the hours you work each week and the weeks you work each year. The big variables are overtime and unpaid time off, so adjust the weeks to match your real schedule.
The quick conversion is annual salary = hourly rate × hours per week × 52. At a standard 40-hour week, a $25/hour job works out to $25 × 40 × 52 = $52,000 a year before taxes. A handy shortcut for full-time roles: double the hourly rate and add three zeros — $25 becomes roughly $50,000, which is close enough for a first estimate.
The × 52 assumes you are paid for all 52 weeks. That is true for salaried roles, but hourly workers are usually only paid for hours actually worked. If you take two unpaid weeks off, you are really working 50 paid weeks, so the same $25/hour is about $50,000, not $52,000. This calculator lets you set weeks per year so the estimate matches your real situation.
You are offered $30/hour for a 37.5-hour week with three weeks of unpaid leave. That is 49 paid weeks: $30 × 37.5 × 49 ≈ $55,125 a year before taxes — noticeably less than the $58,500 the naive 52-week formula would suggest.
If you are self-employed, do not set your rate by dividing a target salary by 2,080 hours. You pay both halves of Social Security and Medicare (the 15.3% self-employment tax), you get no employer benefits, and not every hour is billable. A common rule of thumb is to aim for a billable rate roughly 25–50% above the equivalent-salary hourly figure to cover taxes, unpaid admin time, and benefits you now fund yourself.
Use it to compare a job offer against your current salary, to translate a contract rate into annual terms, or — in reverse — to work out the hourly rate a target salary implies before you set a freelance quote.
Multiply your hourly rate by hours per week by weeks per year. At $25/hour, 40 hours, 52 weeks, that's $52,000 a year. This calculator also shows monthly and weekly pay.
Before tax — it's gross pay. For your actual paycheck after tax and deductions, use the take-home pay calculator.
